Yarning Circle at Kyogle Public School
Last year KPS started the ambitious project of designing a yarning circle and bush tucker garden in the school grounds. The area will be used to embed aboriginal culture into the students’ learning through holding classes, meetings, Elder visits and bush tucker identification talks. The Yarning circle, which is part of a larger bush tucker garden, is a 7 metre diameter circle with large sandstone blocks around the perimeter. The next stage of the project is a colourful mosaic to cover the circle, which has been designed in consultation with the AECG and local aboriginal community members. Work on the mosaic will commence in the next few weeks with school staff, students and community all being involved. KPS is looking forward to some memorable learning experiences happening in this space.
